Last week I was able to spend several days (and the whole weekend) working on a Flash / Actionscript 3.0 prototype to demonstrate some UX and system behavior concepts at work.

It reminded me how much I enjoy coding (when it's not every day) and how much, in particular, I enjoy working in Flash and Actionscript. Sure - there are all the little quirks and annoyances that come with the package, weird legacy behaviors in the Flash player, a so-so debugging environment, lack of a great IDE... but what makes that all seem tiny is the instant gratification factor. Something which is greatly missing from my usual day-to-day work.

So - in memory of that brief window of fun... here are a few of my favorite flash bookmarks from delicious.

Who cares if Microsoft has Flash Lite on their smartphones? The whole iPhone vs. Microsoft smartphone has much more to do with usability, stability and "it just works" philosophy. With the arrival of the iPhone SDK, the June software update and the coming wave of cool new applications via iTunes, Apple's offering will continue to dominate the smart phone / all-purpose pocket device for seasons to come.
And kudos to Jobs for demanding a Flash Player for iPhone that won't fill the device with hacked-up sludge.

Now I can't freaking multi-select files in Explorer. After spending about two hours trying to figure out if I screwed up a configuration somewhere, I googled the problem and what do you know... it's a bug. Excellent.

If it wasn't such a HUGE pain to downgrade...

Check this out.

Despite Google's recent political troubles - they are still among the kings of cool and useful web gadgets. Writely, a web-based word processor, promises to be one of their most useful. New users are being put on a waiting list until all functionality is moved to Google's infrastructure, but it's doubtful that will be a long process - make sure you get in on it now.
