How many of us truly use Google's search engine capabilities to its fullest potential? I've put off commiting these advanced search operators to memory - thinking I don't have time for that kind of extreme geekery. With all the extra hours I've logged sifting through millions of results from simple queries, you'd think I'd have learned. So this my New Year's Resolution: to finally learn (and put into common use) at least most of these Google advanced search operators.

A relative newcomer to the Knoxville scene; Taste of Havana has tons of potential. Wonderful flavors - hearty main dishes - rice and beans to die for. The meals are usually excellent - although occasionally inconsistent. The baked goods (with the exception of the heavenly Cuban bread) leave a bit to be desired. Lack of good service help seems to be the root all the issues mentioned here.

Great Korean food in a comfortable atmosphere. We've had friends of ours from Korea treat us to dinner here twice. They feel it's one of the best Korean restaurants in the U.S. Lunch is a good time to try out a few new dishes and Kaya has some tasty lunch specials.

Very good collection of links to freely available software for Apple computers. This is as well put together as Google's recently released "Google Pack;" placing the most-needed software for everyday tasks in the hands of the end user for free. Open Source Mac

I'm just full of time-wasting tips today. After sending out the last of several months' worth of huge document review comments, sign-off sheets and clarification requests yesterday, I finally had some down time today at work. This is a rare occurance for me. Not that I'm usually working myself to death... but I never come to the office and wonder how I should spend my time that day.
So as a result of my stunning good fortune I present for your enjoyment:

"Country Boys" will shine light on long dead places in your heart - I promise.

I've been completely humbled by a documentary currently running on PBS. The last of three episodes is tonight (9pm EST) - and you can watch the first two on line now.

A great way to figure out how to spend your next paycheck at the iTunes store.

Japanese Kitchen Gohan Ya in Farragut has become a regular stop for me. This cleanly-decorated Japanese restaurant offers great food, the freshest fish in town and outstanding service. The owner, Yuki, seeks to bring authentic, Japanese home cooking to Knoxville. Those in the know say he's succeeded.

Tucked away in the least visible corner of an out of the way shopping center in Oak Ridge, #1 Saigon Noodle offers a cure for the common Pho craving.

Check out this nice, little Vietnamese restaurant in Oak Ridge. We've visited several times and the food is always tasty and consistent. The menu isn't huge - but I'm thrilled to have good Pho this close to home - even if it were the only thing on the menu.

If you plan on visiting for lunch, go early, the place fills up quickly with a bustling lunch crowd.
